Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Recognize what Confidential Information includes, and the restrictions that apply to accessing and disclosing PHI.
- Educate physicians and APPs about their ethical and legal responsibilities and provide a confidential means for questions and reporting real or suspected misconduct.
- Determine various elements of Environment of Care, both facility and personal responsibilities: safety management, principles of body mechanics, security management, hazardous materials and waste management, fire safety (life safety), medical equipment management and utility management.
- Increase knowledge and preparedness for various types of disasters, including disaster plans, preparations in case of emergency and Bronze Alert/Active Weapon incidents.
- Increase knowledge of infection prevention practices that reduce risk of HAI.
- Recognize elements of proper patient identification, patient centered communication, medication access, prevention of falls, reporting of patient events, CMS rules on visitation, and EMTALA.
- Identify the importance and components needed to build an effective team, and to increase confidence to use I Need Clarity in any situation.
- Explain the importance of healthy sleep habits and the effects that sleep deprivation can have on cognitive functions, learning, mood, metabolic and immune functions and on longevity and mortality.
