Target Audience:

Physicians, advanced practice providers, and allied health professionals.

This course is designed for physicians that do not have access to the training on the UPMC ULearn learning management system accessed via 'My Hub'.


NOTE: You must complete all 10 segments of this module (Compliance & Ethics Review, Cultural Competence, Emergency Preparedness, EMTALA, Environment of Care, Infection Prevention, Patient Safety, Sleep & Fatigue, Staff Privacy &Security, Team Effectiveness) to be in compliance.

Educational Objectives:

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Recognize what Confidential Information includes, and the restrictions that apply to accessing and disclosing PHI.
  • Educate physicians and APPs about their ethical and legal responsibilities and provide a confidential means for questions and reporting real or suspected misconduct.
  • Determine various elements of Environment of Care, both facility and personal responsibilities: safety management, principles of body mechanics, security management, hazardous materials and waste management, fire safety (life safety), medical equipment management and utility management.
  • Increase knowledge and preparedness for various types of disasters, including disaster plans, preparations in case of emergency and Bronze Alert/Active Weapon incidents.
  • Increase knowledge of infection prevention practices that reduce risk of HAI.
  • Recognize elements of proper patient identification, patient centered communication, medication access, prevention of falls, reporting of patient events, CMS rules on visitation, and EMTALA.
  • Identify the importance and components needed to build an effective team, and to increase confidence to use “I Need Clarity” in any situation.
  • Explain the importance of healthy sleep habits and the effects that sleep deprivation can have on cognitive functions, learning, mood, metabolic and immune functions and on longevity and mortality.
