Physicians, nurses, and other health care professionals who provide prenatal care, inpatient maternity care, and postpartum care.

Educational Objectives:

At the completion of this module participants will be able to:

  • Identify historical shifts in infant feeding practices across cultures and time periods.
  • Evaluate the rationale for professional, government, and intentional policies that promote, protect, that promote, protect and support breastfeeding.
  • Explain the 10 Steps to Successful Breastfeeding and assess their implementation
  • Interpret key data and quality improvement measures in maternity care and explain U.S. national public health goals for breastfeeding.
