INTRODUCTION
Educational Objectives:

General Goals

To provide information that will enable faculty/researchers, scholars, and research staff/coordinators to be in compliance with University COI policies and federal COI regulations.

Upon completion of this training module, participants should be able to:

  • Articulate the underlying ethical principles associated with COI.
  • Define key COI concepts and terms (e.g., types of COIs, outside interests, SFIs, conflict of commitment, research-related procurement COIs, regulatory committees, Licensed Start-up Companies, etc.)
  • Describe the University COI policy and federal COI regulations related to faculty/researchers, commercialization of inventions, technology transfer, Licensed Start-up companies, and, if applicable, interactions with industry
  • Identify common management tools and the risks of unmanaged COIs.
  • Describe COIs requiring management as defined by these policies
  • Identify COI disclosure requirements
  • Name resources for information about COI issues.

If you receive or expect to receive research funding from a Public Health Service agency, do NOT complete this module.

This module will not fulfill your COI training requirement.
