Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Determine the best time for surgery in patient admitted with hip fracture with the goal to minimize postoperative complications.
  • Differentiate between recommended calculators for assessing preoperative cardiac risk in patients undergoing non-cardiac surgery.
  • Name a reason when aspirin should be held prior to an elective non-cardiac surgery in a patient with history of coronary artery disease.
  • Explain indications for ordering Clostridium difficile infection testing in hospitalized patients.
