Target Audience:

Emergency medicine physicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals who care for patients in the emergency setting.

Educational Objectives:

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Cite the incidence of delirium among elderly patients seen in the emergency setting
  • Describe the frequency at which the diagnosis of delirium is missed in the ED and define strategies by which the accuracy of diagnosis may be improved
  • Evaluate the consequences of missing the diagnosis of delirium
  • Improve diagnostic skills for identifying delirium in the ED
  • Develop strategies to manage delirium in the ED
